What Buyers Should Know
- Most manufacturers now offer similar baseline coverage. Eight years with 100,000 miles of battery warranty coverage is the industry norm, while several manufacturers extend coverage to 150,000 miles or more.
- The battery capacity guarantee matters. Most brands guarantee the battery will retain at least 70% of its original capacity during the warranty period, but some manufacturers offer higher or lower thresholds depending on the vehicle.
- Transferability can significantly affect used EV value. Most manufacturers transfer the battery warranty automatically to the next owner, but Hyundai/Kia reduce coverage for second owners unless the vehicle is purchased as Certified Pre-Owned (CPO).
- Read the exclusions—not just the headline numbers. Your comparison highlights examples such as mandatory software update requirements, charging restrictions, commercial-use limitations, and battery care requirements that can affect warranty coverage.
